Spray Foam Insulation
Spray foam insulation is a premium alternative to traditional insulation such as cellulose and fiberglass. A two-component mixture composed of isocyanate and polyol resin comes together inside the tip of the gun and forms and expanding foam that can be sprayed into roofing rafters in attics, wall cavities, and foundation areas such as rim joists and crawl spaces.
Spray foam insulation can be categorized into two different types: open cell and closed cell.
Open cell foam insulation~ 0.5lb
Open cell is a very good insulation and creates a great air barrier but does not provide and type of vapor barrier. It is often used for interior and exterior walls as well as attics because it provides a great R value as well as sound reduction.
Closed cell foam insulation~ 2.0lb
Closed cell foam insulation is a much denser material than open cell. It has a high R Value than open cell and creates a vapor barrier as a result of its compact cell structure. It is often used in foundation areas where moisture content is high.
